A large number of cable operators in the city, who still do not have licences, would soon be given the mandatory document by the district authorities soon, an MNS leader said on Tuesday.

MNS general secretary Shalini Thackeray met Mumbai Suburban District Collector Shekhar Channe at his Bandra office here to discuss this issue. "Currently, over 2,500 cable operators in Mumbai are waiting to get the 4 (2)(b) licence for cable operators. They have failed to secure legal status for their businesses due to lack of licences. This is creating professional difficulties for them," Thackeray told reporters after the meeting.

Under Section- 4 (2) (b) of Bombay Entertainment Duty Act, 1923, licences are issued to cable operators, enabling them to pay entertainment tax to the government. She added that failing to allocate proper licences to the cable operators has also resulted in a huge loss to the state exchequer.

Thackeray said Channe has asked cable operators to apply for a 4 (2)(b) licence and has assured that it would will be issued within a specific time-frame.
