The rupee was marginally down by three paise at 64.99 against the dollar in early trade on Tuesday due to month-end demand for the US currency from importers.

Besides, a lower opening in domestic equity markets kept pressure on the rupee, forex dealers said.

However, dollar was weak against other currencies overseas which capped the losses, they added.

The rupee had ended lower by 13 paise at 64.96 against the US dollar at Interbank Foreign Exchange market on Monday.

Meanwhile, the benchmark BSE Sensex fell by 106.83 points, or 0.39%, at 27,255.13 in early trade on Tuesday.
