Prime inister Narendra Modi has extended the 'Housing for All' scheme to the rural areas, promising a pucca house for every rural household by 2022, a statement from PIB said on Sunday.

On Sunday, the Prime Minister formally launched the 'Housing for All' scheme or the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin)in the rural areas.

In its first phase, the government has set a target of completing one crore houses by Marhc 2019. 

The government has increased the unit cost for these houses to a minimum support of nearly Rs. 1.5 lakh to Rs. 1.6 lakh for a household. "There is also a provision of bank loan upto Rs 70,000, if the beneficiary so desires," the statement said. 

According to the government, the Housing for All scheme in the rural area, will  provide skilling for five lakh rural masons by 2019.
