Born in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Sanjay Mehrotra is one of the veterans of the global IT industry. Sanjay Mehrotra has been a student of BITS Pilani and he is one of the business leaders at the forefront of India's strategic partnership to make the country a semiconductor hub. Sanjay Mehrotra is the CEO of Micron Technology and was a co-founder of SanDisk. Sanjay Mehrotra was recently in news after he reaffirmed US chip giant Micron Technology’s commitment to set up the first semiconductor plant in Gujarat, India. It is expected that the plant would generate around 5,000 employment opportunities.

Sanjay Mehrotra has been in the IT industry for over 4 decades. Though Mehrotra was born in Kanpur, he grew up in New Delhi and studied in Sardar Patel School. After completing his B.Tech from BITS Pilani, Sanjay Mehrotra moved to the US to study electrical engineering and computer science at the University of California at Berkeley. He graduated in 2009 from Stanford University Graduate School of Business Executive Education Program.

​Sanjay Mehrotra founded the popular brand SanDisk in 1988 and served as its CEO from 2011 to 2016. In his long career he has worked with companies like Intel, Atmel and Integrated Device Technology. Mehrotra was appointed the CEO of Micron in 2017. According to media reports, his daily salary is Rs 64 lakh.

As of 2023, Sanjay Mehrotra serves on the board of directors for Micron Technology, CDW, Semiconductor Industry Association, and the Engineering Advisory Board at the University of California, Berkeley.
