Indian railways is all set to replace its high speed premium trains Shatabdi Express with its first semi-high speed train. Named on the year it's being manufactured, Train 18 has been completely made in India. 


The train will run on the tracks reportedly in June this year. At first, railways will launch train 18 as an inter-city travel train. 

Laded with world-class amenities, train 18 will run at the speed of 160km/hour. As mentioned earlier, Train 18 is an all 'make in India' project manufactured at ICF (Integral Coach Factory) in Chennai. 

According to ICF, it will be manufactured at half the cost of a similar train set being imported from other nations. According to a report in the Financial Express, the first train set of train 18 will have 16 chair-car type coaches, both executive and non-executive. 

The maximum seating capacity of executive chair cars will be 56 passengers, while those of non executive will be 78, not to mention, it will be a fully air conditioned train. The report also stated that Train 18 will have a wifi connection and will boasts of a GPS-based passenger information system.

And to take care of the environment, Train 18 will possess of zero discharge bio-vaccum toilets. Train 18 will have driving cabins at both ends of the train. The coaches of the self-propelled train set will be inter connected with fully sealed gangways, the publication reported. 

Meanwhile, Indian Railways has decided to revamp its 68 major stations under its own engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) model. 

The decision came after railways got the cold response from the private investors, according to the report in the Economic Times. 

According to the newspaper, the rail ministry has informed to all its zones to start the work immediately and complete the project within a year. 

After the revamp these 68 stations would get state of the art amenities including elevators, a modern passenger announcement system, shopping complex, new platforms, swanky waiting rooms and airport like entry and exit systems.
