Swedish furniture giant IKEA may soon invest in Mizoram by utilising the potential of bamboo plants in the state, an official statement said.

The initiative for investment by IKEA was taken by the state's Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, it said.The company would organise a workshop in Aizawl on Thursday and the mode of partnership with local entrepreneurs would be discussed there, it added. 

So far, the company has declared that it will be setting up showrooms in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, for which the company has already finalised a Rs 447 crore deal for land in Borivali suburb in Mumbai and another one in Navi Mumbai for Rs 300-350 crore. For Maharashtra alone, the company said that it had earmarked Rs 1,800 to set up atleast three stores.
