NEW DELHI: Car maker Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday launched alternate fuel variant of its flagship hatchback Santro-CNG at a starting price of Rs 3,25,361 (ex-showroom Delhi).

The CNG powered Santro would be pitted against rival Maruti's Wagon R LPG duo, which comes at a base price of Rs 3.49 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).

The CNG kit would be retrofitted at the dealership level and the alternate fuel variant has been introduced only in Delhi. The company would source the CNG kits from auto components maker Minda Auto Gas, HMIL said in a statement.

The company has introduced four variants of CNG Santro -- XK (non A/c), XL, XO and AT (automatic transmission).

CNG Santro would also come with a 2 year, unlimited mileage warranty and the company would also offer an additional warranty for the same period on the CNG kit and fitment.

The car would be able to run on both petrol and CNG. The CNG cylinder has a capacity of 12 kg and the running cost is estimated to be in the range of Re one per kilometre.

"CNG has established itself as an eco-friendly and economical fuel and HMIL will now offer this choice of fuel to its Santro customers. We feel that this will increase the attractiveness of Santro as it will considerably bring down the running cost," HMIL Vice President Marketing and Sales Arvind Saxena said.
