HP printer to allow print from mobiles

Hewlett Packard (HP) India, the imaging and printing company, on Tuesday announced the launch of its cloud-enabled wireless printers in India that use the web to print data from devices such as smart phones, laptops and desktop computers directly.

The multifunction home and business printers that use the ePrint technology to print documents from anywhere are WiFi and LAN-enabled and will be priced between Rs7,500 and Rs23,000.

Raj Kumar Rishi, director, inkjet and web solutions, imaging & printing group, Hewlett Packard India, said, “With the massive growth of the internet and smart phones, and even touch technology, the new HP web-empowered printers will make access to web content and printing easier for consumers and offices.”

One only needs to email the data that needs to be printed to a unique email address provided by HP, using a phone, netbook or a laptop. The printer then receives the data from cloud and prints it.

Overseas, the company has launched the ePrint technology for Apple’s iPad, which has not been officially launched in India.

The e-All-in-One series will be available in the market during this quarter. HP is also working on schedule-printing concept where the user can schedule the printer to print images and documents at a later time, Rishi said.

Rishi said that as per IDC’s estimates of the 300,000 units sold, HP has 70% share in inkjet printers in the country. The printers have access to popular, local web content like SnapFish, DreamWorks, Sudoku, Quick Forms, Google Maps, Crayola and others through HP’s proprietary new apps platform. The apps will be available for download from the HP ePrintCenter.
