There is some good news for professionals working in the Indian IT sector. In a major policy change, cybersecurity company TAC Security has shifted to a four-day work week. TAC Security has been closing its Mumbai office on Fridays for the past seven months, giving its employees a long weekend to enjoy.

The IT company claims that this has led to better productivity. The company is of the opinion that if this policy makes workers more productive and happier, it will make the policy permanent in the Mumbai office, the company said on Monday.

TAC Security carried out an internal survey which showed that 80% of the team was willing to work four days a week for longer hours while getting a long weekend to focus on their personal commitments and growth. After the announcement, many employees have apparently signed up for various courses and activities.

"It's all about keeping standards of execution high, while still putting the team’s health and well-being first," TAC Security's founder and CEO Trishneet Arora said. TAC Security company's headquarters is in San Francisco and it works towards vulnerability management for companies.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak, companies across the world have been advocating a four-day work week. Some of them, especially in the Nordic region, have even implemented the move. There are reports that the new labour code will allow organisations to let their employees work for four days instead of the present mandated five days. This will be in effect if employees are working for 12 hours a day.

Proposed new labour law

According to new labour law, the working hours of employees are going to be increased from 9 hours to 12 hours.

The in-hand salary of the employees will also change after the implementation of the new labour law.

According to the draft labour law, the basic pay of the employees will be 50% or more of the total salary.
