Vijay Mallya on Wednesday claimed that before leaving India he had met the Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley to settle matters. Talking to the media outside London's Westminster Magistrates' Court, Mallya said that the banks had filed objections to my settlement letters. The London court is hearing Vijay Mallya's extradition case.

The prosecution lawyer told the Westminster Magistrates' Court in London, "What Vijay Mallya's Kingfisher internally knew was totally different from what it was telling the banks.  Kingfisher Airlines misrepresented facts about performance when applying for loans."

However, Mallya's lawyer told the court that there is no evidence available that proves Vijay Mallya or Kingfisher applied for bank loans with bad intent. He further made claims that CBI's Rakesh Asthana threatened banks with 'consequences' if they did not file cases against Mallya.

He also claimed that the jail video Indian authorities showed to the court had been an eyewash, as the paint on the walls is fresh. The court reportedly had watched the video three times.

The Central Bureau of Investigation had presented a jail video before the UK court in August where the authorities are planning to keep the liquor baron. The  6-8 minute-long video displayed that Barrack Number 12 of Mumbai's Arthur Road Jail will have a personal toilet, washing area and TV set along with a courtyard to take a stroll in the sunlight. The video was displayed when Mallya in court complained about "no natural light" or fresh air in Indian jails.

The lawyer of liquor baron Vijay Mallya on Wednesday further claimed that IDBI Bank officials were well aware of the losses incurred in the debt-ridden Kingfisher Airlines.

Mallya's lawyer told Westminster Magistrates Court in London, "IDBI bank officials were well aware of losses at Kingfisher. The emails from IDBI officials show that the government's accusation of Mallya hiding losses is baseless."

Mallya, while heading inside the court in connection with his extradition case, said that he is ready for a comprehensive settlement.

On being asked if he has convinced the Court that he has the means to pay what he said he will, Mallya told media here, "Obviously, that is why a settlement offer has been made. The hearing is on September 18."

Vijay Mallya, an alleged financial offender, is facing charges of bank fraud and money laundering in India, amounting to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore.
Mallya is wanted in India for defaulting on bank loans to the tune of Rs 9,000 crore, has been in the UK since March 2016. He was arrested by the Scotland Yard on an extradition warrant in April this year.
