Coal India offered the funds to West Bengal Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO) for purchase of three electric buses and an electric car on World Environment Day, the company said in a statement today.

CIL had recently moved into Rajarhat at its new office complex and had been working on means to support environment friendly public transportation for pollution-free public services in the area.

"The suggestion came from WBHIDCO, and as a corporate citizen we agreed," CIL chairman Sutirtha Bhattacharya said.

A MoU was signed today between the CIL and WBHIDCO signed by Coal India director R Mohan Das, (Personnel & IR) and HIDCO joint managing director Debjani Dutta.
