NEW DELHI: Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday called off his visit to Washington starting from Saturday following objections from the Opposition.

"The Finance Minister has cancelled his visit abroad and he will stay back home in view of the Parliamentary business," Parliamentary  Affairs Minister PR Dasmunsi told reporters here on Friday.

He said there was 'strong resentment' from the Opposition that the Finance Minister should not be away when the Parliament was in session and Chidambaram has decided to cancel his visit.

He was scheduled to visit Washington from Saturday to participate in the World Bank meetings.

"This only shows the UPA government's commitment to Parliament", Dasmunsi said.
