Business Summit: Investment proposal of Rs 2.19 lakh crore to generate 20 lakh jobs, says Mamata Banerjee

On the concluding day of the two-day Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS), Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said that the summit had been highly successful with the state receiving business proposals of around Rs 2.19 lakh crore.

"So far we have received new investment proposals worth Rs 2 lakh 19 thousand and 925 crores. This figure might go up. More than 20 lakh employment will be generated from these investments," she said during her speech. She added that about 110 MoUs had been signed in the summit and claimed it's because Bengal at present is an environment-friendly and politically stable state. 

“We like to talk less and work more. West Bengal is converting into Best Bengal. Many foreign countries have expressed their interest in investing in Bengal. Industrialists will get our full cooperation,” she added. She said that of the 20 lakh potential employment generation, one lakh would be by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL). “More than one lakh jobs will be created in the telecom industry, going by the investment proposal of RIL chairman Mukesh Ambani,” she said.

On the second day of BGBS, Pranav Adani of Adani Group said that given an opportunity his group would want to replicate Mundra Port of Kutch in Bengal. “We manage the largest number of ports in the country and we want to bring out expertise in West Bengal as well. So far, there has been an investment of Rs 750 crore and we would like to double it in the next five years,” he said. Mamata maintained that Bengal government believed in a holistic development of society and that there was no discrimination done in Bengal on the basis of religion, caste and creed. “My government believes that if the down-trodden are not happy, others cant be happy as well. In order to make every section of society happy, there needs to be development of both agriculture and industry,” she said.

Later through a facebook post she congratulated everyone for making BGBS a 'success'. ‘Yes, we have to work even harder in the days ahead to fulfil the aspirations and prove that truly Bengal means Business. We are fully prepared to deliver our best’, the post read. There she also said that the next edition of BGBS would be held in 2019 on February 7 and 8.
