The BSE Sensex and National Stock Exchange Nifty index are on a record breaking spree in Wednesday's trading session. At the time of updating the copy, the 30-share index was trading at 30,124.79, up 181.55 points or 0.65% from previous close.

Intraday, it hit a high of 30,137.53. 

The 30-share index opened above the crucial psychological level of 30,000 on strong Asian cues. NSE Nifty also opened in the green and was trading at a new level of 9,358.3, up 51.75 or 0.56% from previous close. It however retreated after that. 

BSE Sensex also came down from the new record level and was trading at 30,094.02, up 150.78 points or 0.50 from previous close. It hit an intraday low of 30,004.28. 

The markets are buoyed by strength in the Asian markets that are on a gaining streak for the fifth day led by strength at the Wall Street. Nasdaq Composite hit an hit an all-time high on Tuesday while the Dow and S&P 500 brushed against recent peack as strong earnings underscored the health of corporate America, a Reuters report said.

According to a report by PTI, sustained buying by retail investors amid high foreign fund inflows and the rupee appreciating against the dollar totrade at a near 21-month high of 64.07 fuelled the bull run of the bourses.

The top gainers were Orient Bank up 5.63%, Andhra Bank 4.71%, Wipro 2.87%.
