Bengaluru: Air India employee hit by IndiGo bus at airport, hospitalised after serious injuries

Reacting to the incident, IndiGo said that a probe is underway.

An Air India employee has been hit by an IndiGo bus at the Bengaluru airport. The incident happened on Saturday. The victim has been identified as Shiv Shankar,a contractual employee of AI Engineering Services Ltd. 

He was was hit by an IndiGo bus and dragged for some distance before the bus stopped. At present, he has been admitted to a hospital with serious injuries. According to ANI, Air India has demanded that IndiGo should pay compensation to the victim apart from facing the legal consequences. 

"Shiv Shankar, a contractual employee of AI Engineering Services Ltd, was hit by an IndiGo bus and dragged for some distance before the bus stopped. He has been admitted to hospital with serious injuries," an Air India official said.

Reacting to the incident, IndiGo said that a probe is underway. "IndiGo confirms the incident involving a ferry coach hit at Bangalore airport on February 23 before departure of 6E 2808. The staff escaped unhurt with minor injuries. Concerned authorities have been notified and a probe is currently in progress with full cooperation from IndiGo," the airline said.

Meanwhile, Air India's Mumbai control centre on Saturday received a phone call threatening to hijack its plane, following which Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) ordered all airlines and CISF to follow specific enhanced measures to ensure security, according to an official note.

"A telephonic message received by the station duty office, AI (Air India) AOCC (Airport Operation Control Centre) Mumbai, stating information regarding a threat to Indian Airlines flight getting hijacked to Pakistan on 23.2.2019," stated the BCAS note dated February 23.
