"Centre is surveying on VAT systems of the states across the country. In the set of 40 questions, Bengal VAT system has received 40 points," Commercial Taxes Commissioner Binod Kumar said at an interactive session with Calcutta Chamber of Commerce.

The Centre, he said, wanted to survey the VAT systems of all states in the wake of proposed Goods and Services Tax.

Replying to a question he said that e-commerce players were paying the entry tax levied by West Bengal.

Meanwhile, the department's amnesty scheme launched since April for business entities not paying value added tax liability is yet to gain momentum.

"We are getting lot of inquires, but not sure about how many business entities has actually availed the scheme," Kumar had said.
