Base metal prices firmed up by Rs 2 per kg at the non-ferrous metal market today, tracking a firm trend overseas amid pick up in demand from consuming industries.

Traders said firm trend overseas where nickel strengthened to three-month high after Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte on Monday threatened to impose more taxes on mining firms unless they take steps to protect the environment, reviving concerns about supply from the world's top producer of mined nickel, mainly buoyed sentiment.

Besides, pick up in demand from consuming industries at the domestic spot market, fuelled the uptrend.

In the national capital, copper mixed scrap and nickel plate (4x4) rose by Rs 2 each to Rs 362 and Rs 797-807 per kg respectively. Lead ingot and lead imported also enquired higher by a similar margin to Rs 98 and Rs 104 per kg, respectively.

Following are today's metal rates (in Rs per kg): Zinc ingot Rs 104-110, Nickel plate (4x4) Rs 797-807, gun metal scrap Rs 227, Bell metal scrap Rs 229, copper mixed scrap Rs 362, chadri deshi Rs 295.

Lead ingot Rs 98, lead imported Rs 104, aluminium ingots Rs 154, aluminium sheet cutting Rs 150, aluminium wire scrap Rs 150 and aluminium utensils scrap Rs 148.
