Evalia, a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV), would be launched in the middle of this year, while Stile, a multi-functional vehicle, will be launched six months after Evalia’s launch. The two products are based on Nissan’s NV 200 platform.

The first product that came out from the JV was 1.5 tonner light commercial vehicle (LCV), Dost. The second LCV platform, which was displayed at the Auto Expo was Partner, a 6.5 tonner, which is slated for a launch in 2013. “After the launch of Evalia and Stile, we will launch Partner. In the next 18 months, every six months we will have a new product in the market,” said V Sumantran, executive vice-chairman, Hinduja Automotive. Stile and Evalia will be manufactured at Nissan’s plant at Oragadam in Chennai, while the LCVs will be manufactured at Ashok Leyland’s factory in Hosur, Karnataka.

So far there are four products from the JV. The two companies are yet to decide on the fifth product. “There are some ideas and products being developed right now and we will be announcing in the next six months. We will have one product on both applications - commercial and passenger. So there will be at least two more products. But we will do products like multi-functional vehicle like Stile,” said Sumantran.

“We have ruled out the option of making a passenger car right now,” he said.

While Evalia will be sold through Nissan’s network, Stile will be sold through Ashok Leyland’s network. The companies will focus on different applications. Stile, however, will be positioned below Evalia. “There are different kinds of customers in this segment. One is a personal-use segment, which are bigger families. Then there are applications like airport shuttles, BPO, radio taxis and hotel limousines. Ashok Leyland, being a commercial brand, will target the commercial applications and Nissan will target the personal-use segment,” said Sumantran.
