Net new job creation in the first six months of this financial year across 19 key sectors and 14 cities is estimated to be 11,49,400, according to an employment outlook report by TeamLease Services.

Of the 19 sectors surveyed in the report, 11 witnessed an increase in net employment outlook while the remaining eight have reported a decrease for the April-September period of 2019-20.

Also, approximately 17% of all net new jobs estimated to be created during this period are likely to be for freshers. Cities and sectors leading fresher hiring activities include retail-Delhi (8,250 jobs), educational services-Bengaluru (6,870 jobs), retail-Chennai (5,550 jobs), retail-Bengaluru (4,960 jobs), educational services-Mumbai (4,180 jobs) and fast-moving consumer goods/durables (FMCG/D)-Mumbai (4,210 jobs).

Among sectors with positive outlook towards hiring are travel and hospitality (+4%), BPO / ITeS (+4%), power and energy (+3%), logistics (+3%), retail (+2%), financial services (+2%), educational services (+2%), consulting (+2%), manufacturing, engineering and infrastructure (+2%), construction and real estate (+2%) and FMCG/D (+1%).

Sectors where hiring outlook is negative include marketing and advertising (-1%), agriculture and agrochemicals (-2%), telecommunications (-2%), KPO (-3%), healthcare and pharmaceuticals (-3%), IT (-4%), media and entertainment (-4%) and e-commerce and tech start-ups (-5%).

The manufacturing, engineering and infrastructure (MEI) sectors together will witness a net addition of 58,200 new jobs. The study further states that these industries will witness a 2% increase in net employment outlook between April-September, 2019-20. As far as attrition is concerned, the MEI sectors have been stable and the attrition rate has remained stagnant at 11.5% since October-March, 2017-18.

According to Sudeep Sen, head of industrial, manufacturing and engineering vertical, TeamLease Services, the three sectors have employed 6.42 crore people as of second half (HY-2) of 2018-19. "The electronic manufacturing ecosystem is expected to reach investments worth Rs 26 lakh crore by 2025 and the sector is expected to witness an exponential growth in jobs."

"Further, the modernisation and the introduction of industrial internet of things in manufacturing will not only witness the sector contributing around 25% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the country by 2022 but also add significantly towards job creation. Manufacturing, engineering and infrastructure industries will also witness an 8.02% growth in jobs between April-September, 2019-20," said Sen.

Topping the list is Pune with 9,150 new jobs, and Mumbai, with 8,940 new jobs, stands in the second list as the cities with maximum opportunities for this sector. Following closely is Bengaluru that will witness an addition of 8,015 new jobs in the same period. The exponential growth, as per the report, is due to an increase in investments and production seen in the sector.
