Air India flight services have been delayed and disrupted from Mumbai due to a flash strike called by contractual employees. According to airline sources, several flights have been delayed and authorities are trying to sort out the problem. The strike is due to non-payment of Diwali bonuses. Over 5,000 people are on strike and Air India is looking to use its permanent staffers to salvage the situation.  Over 10 domestic and 3 international flights were late by around 3 hours.

Here are people venting out on Twitter to express their problem.

Passengers are sitting in the plane with no info on when the flight will depart @KanchanGupta @suchetadalal @ShekharGupta . No wonder air india does not make money

Air India in a statement said, " Due to a sudden industrial situation at Mumbai airport by AIATSL employees, some flights have got delayed. We are assessing the situation and all efforts are being made to minimise delays or disruption". The strike has been going on from Wednesday night. Passengers are greatly inconvenienced as this is the festive session and many had availed Air India for their journey. The strike has been called by the contractual ground staff of Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIATS).

Air India Air Transport Services Limited (AIATSL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of the national carrier, provides ground handling services to Air India across airports in the country. It has about 5,000 employees, including those on contract.

"Some AIATSL employees at the Mumbai airport are on strike since Wednesday-Thursday (intervening) night over non-payment of Diwali Bonus, leading to disruption in services. These employees, however, are on contract," the official said PTI.
