5 products that make Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurveda firm worth crores

Baba Ramdev owned Patanjali Ayurveda is making millions, thanks to its massive loyal customer base. Started in 1995 by 

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev and his close associate Acharya Balkrishna under the trust called Divya Pharmacy, the humongous 

demand for its products lead to the formation of a private company in 2006 called Patanjali Ayurved Ltd, which has since 

rolled out a range of products in healthcare, hair care, home care, dental care, toiletries, food, beverages and more at a 

breathtaking speed.

With revenues of over Rs 10,560 crore in 2016-17, Patanjali aims to overtake the country’s biggest FMCG player Hindustan 

Unilever Ltd (HUL) in the coming years. 

But what contributes to its success, besides the constant growing customer base? Below are Patanjali's most popular five 

products, that have expanded the Haridwar-situated firm. 

1. Patanjali's cow ghee

With an annual turnover in 2016-17, Patanjali's cow ghee has earned the total of Rs 1,467 crore. The market leader in this 

segment is Amul, to which Patanjali has given an already neck and neck competition. 

A 500 gram packet of the cow ghee comes for Rs 270. 

2. Dant Kanti Toothpaste

After cow's ghee, Patanjali Ayurveda had earned maximum revnue from its second most popular product, Dant kanti toothpaste. The firm plans to dethrone the current market leader, Colgate. 

According to the latest data available, Patanjali’s DantKanti had sales of Rs 940 crore which accounts for 8.9% of the total revenue generation in 2016-17. 

3. Ayurvedic Medicines

As mentioned above in 2016-17, the firm reported the total revnue of Rs 10,560 crore, out of which the Patanjali Ayurved accounted for Rs 9,346 crore and Divya Pharmacy Rs 870 crore. Divya Pharmacy manufactures and sells Ayurvedic medicines, the starting price of which is somewhat around Rs 30. 

The stiff competition to Ramdev's firm in this segment is with Dabur. 

4. Shampoo

Kesh Kanti, the hair cleanser is also among the most popular products of Patanjali Ayurveda. Patanjali’s hair care brand Kesh Kanti had a turnover Rs 825 crore in the 2016-17 which accounts to 7.8% of the total revenue generated. 

It was also reported that at Rs 825 crore, Patanjali’s hair oil sales are higher than that of key player Bajaj Corp. 

5. Bathing soaps

Patanjali herbal bath soap generated revenue of Rs 574 crore during the fiscal year 2016-17.

Earlier this year, Baba Ramdev's Patanjali in a massive push for online availability of Patanjali Ayurveda's products announced partnership with eight e-tailers. 

Patanjali Ayurveda had tied-up with Amazon, Flipkart, ShopClues, bigbasket_com, 1mgOfficial, Grofers and NetMeds. These partnerships with etailers will be in addition to its own portal patanjaliayurved.net, where the company is selling its products online. 

It was also reported that French luxury group LVMH Moet Hennessy - Louis Vuitton, is likely to made a gigantic investment in  Baba Ramdev's Patanjali Ayurveda. According to the reports, Louis Vuitton is mulling to invest a whopping 500 million USD (Rs 3,250 crore) in Patanjali Ayurveda.
