When the coronavirus pandemic started to trouble India, the government in March imposed a complete lockdown due to which, many companies allowed their employees to work from home. However, now that the economy is being opened gradually with less COVID-19 restrictions in place, the government has made it easier for some industries to allow employees to work permanently from home.

The Centre has announced simplification of guidelines for companies offering business process outsourcing (BPO) and IT-based services (ITeS).

These new rules will create a favourable environment for employees to work from home and work from anywhere. Periodic reporting and other commitments for companies have been eliminated. As per an official release, the objective of this step is to strengthen the industry.

However, there are certain employees who are missing work from home. Some people long for a larger workspace, teeming with people so that they can talk to colleagues, or break into impromptu conversations with acquaintances.

You never know who you will meet near the coffee machine, dining/lunchroom. Especially during the time of COVID-19, many employees are craving for human interactions, and office spaces can provide you with plenty.

So here are certain reasons that Work From Office is better than Work from Home.

People at the office are definitely missing the lunch/dinner time during office hours. These are the times when people would take a break from work and talk about what's happening in each other's lives. You can also hear people planning to order food, ask friends bout what's on their menu. Most importantly, when the office lunch/dinner is terrible, the collective moaning of you and your colleagues are definitely to be missed.

Some people would even order food, and have it at their cubicle, and have interesting convesations.

2. Casual encounters, intense debates at office

Satya Nadella reportedly said to the Times editors that he missed walking into a physical meeting, and 'talking to the person that is next to you, you’re able to connect with them for the two minutes before and after.'

More so, offices were centres of interesting, and intellectual conversations that might spark an innovative idea. However, with isolation during COVID-19, intense brainstorming, and fruitful discussions are a major missing.

3. Closure of day's work at office

Reportedly, Physically leaving the office provides a positive impact on your productivity which you don't get with work from home (WFH). According to a report in Money Control, it takes a lot of effort to draw an 'imaginary line of exit.'

To sum it up, WFH might not fill you up with a great sense of achievement, because there is still a lingering sense of not working to your full capacity.

4. Facial expressions and body language at workplace

When it comes to communications, which is key in the workplace, body language is very important. In an office environment, there are a lot of non-verbal cues which you could pick up on, which could help determine the seriouness of the situations at workpace.

With online meetings, you cannot gauge thebody language, when people are logging in from remote servers.

5. Quicker shifting of focus towards work

The office helps you with a quicker transition to your work. When you enter a workspace, you tend to leave your personal problems right at the point of entry into work, and your focus is more aligned towards work. This is because you see other people hyper-focused at work, or discussing important office pitch near the coffe machine, and the work stations and your mind automatically gears up for work-mode.
