In recent years, the infamous Black Friday sale, which takes place on the first Friday after Thanksgiving in the US, has made its way to many countries all over the world. Many online retailers in India are also providing attractive discounts to the excitement of shoppers for the Black Friday on November 26.

The tradition goes back many years as it heralds the beginning of shopping for the Christmas season. The term 'Black Friday' though became popular recently as the retailers capitalised on it to attract the buyers.

What began as a term to describe the dread of workers in the massive market rush post-Thanksgiving and before the Saturday football game came to be used for sales promotions.

As many countries around the world are still struggling with the coronavirus pandemic, the shopping in the retail outlets is limited but space has been taken over by online retailers that are offering great discounts.

Indian e-commerce website Flipkart is providing discounts on several smartphone brands like Realme, Xiaomi, and Oppo among others. The online retail monolith is also offering five per cent cashback on EMI payments with State Bank of India credit cards. The Flipkart Black Friday sale will go on until November 30.

Under Xiaomi's Black Friday sale, which will go on from November 26 to November 29, the buyers can avail discounts from mi.com and other popular e-commerce websites. Its smartphones including the recent releases, accessories, and lifestyle products are on sale.

Nykaa is holding a special Pink Friday sale, in which the brand is offering up to 40 per cent discounts. Fashion retail application Myntra started its sale for the 'Made for Winter' collection even before Black Friday.

Microsoft is offering up to 80 per cent discounts on a variety of games that are optimised for Xbox X/S, Xbox One titles.

Amazon will be holding both Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales. Through its Global Selling programme, as many as 70,000 exporters will be showcasing the 'Made in India' products on Amazon.com.

As it is the beginning of the global holiday season, it is an important time of the year for both the big brands and MSMEs.
