Sabyasachi Mukherjee is one of the ace designers of the country. Almost all Bollywood celebrities, from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Deepika Padukone, have been adorned in Sabyasachi creations at one occasion of the other.
However, the designer recently started getting slammed by the Twitterati for his comments on Indian women who claim they don't know how to wear a saree. Sabyasachi was speaking at the Harvard India Conference where in an answer to a question posed to him, he stated, "I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it.”
Though, the curt statement as met with an applause at the gathering but looks like it didn't go down well with a lot of netizens on the social media. The Twitterati started blasting the noted designer, calling his comments sexist.
In fact, comedian Tanmay Bhatt posted a screenshot of a saree collection from Sabyasachi from his website and wrote, "Maybe fewer young women are not wearing sarees because you’re selling em for 80K bro.”

Not his prerogative to pronounce judgement on women who don’t know how to wear sarees, shocked that such an obtuse comment is not taken as a sexist one ,there is more to women than wearing sarees .

This is insult to all Indian Women. Sabyasachi should apologise to Indian women. A country where Guthhi, Nani and Palak know how to wear a saree, how did he assume that woman wouldn't know.

Since you are so passionate about it do you have a line of more economically priced sarees?

If not shame on you.
Also shame on you for telling women what they should and should not do.
Shocking ! Condemnable ! Why is he not arrested for such communal statements ! Rising intolerance against woman's right to wear what she wants! Liberals of India, time for another Award Wapsi ! Let us all march to Parliament and demand immediate resignation of Modi !
