Twitterati BLASTS noted designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee for shaming Indian women over not knowing how to wear a saree

Sabyasachi Mukherjee is one of the ace designers of the country. Almost all Bollywood celebrities, from Aishwarya Rai Bachchan to Deepika Padukone, have been adorned in Sabyasachi creations at one occasion of the other. 

However, the designer recently started getting slammed by the Twitterati for his comments on Indian women who claim they don't know how to wear a saree. Sabyasachi was speaking at the Harvard India Conference where in an answer to a question posed to him, he stated, "I think, if you tell me that you do not know how to wear a saree, I would say shame on you. It’s a part of your culture, (you) need stand up for it.”

 

Though, the curt statement as met with an applause at the gathering but looks like it didn't go down well with a lot of netizens on the social media. The Twitterati started blasting the noted designer, calling his comments sexist. 

In fact, comedian Tanmay Bhatt posted a screenshot of a saree collection from Sabyasachi from his website and wrote, "Maybe fewer young women are not wearing sarees because you’re selling em for 80K bro.”
