Twinkle Khanna divulges what she told son Aarav when he asked why they're rich and others aren't

Author-entrepreneur and wife of Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar, Twinkle Khanna in a recent conversation with Mrs Sudha Murthy, Chairperson of the Infosys Foundation, revealed what she told her son Aarav when he once asked her why he is privileged when most others aren't. 

While speaking about giving the right value system to children who come from well-off families and making them realise that first and foremost one should be a good human being, Twinkle said that sometimes, 'children who come from well-off homes have a certain amount of guilt' about their privilege. She then asked Sudha how she ensured that her children remain grounded. To this, Sudha replied saying that she once took her son Rohan to meet some tribespeople when he was only 13. She revealed that she told him that a lot of children there were as bright or even brighter than him, but because they aren't born into a well-off family, they can't afford a lot of things which he can because he is privileged. So, she advised him not to take his privilege for granted and rather use it to help others. 

She also recalled a time when her son Rohan was in Cornell and in 2011 when the Parliament attack took place, she received an email from her son in which he wrote that he would request her to give a part of the money in his account to the kin of the policemen who had died in the attack, stating that they sacrificed their lives so that we could live in a democratic country. Sudha said that it was that day that she felt she had given a good value system to her son. 

Furthering the conversation, Twinkle Khanna said, "Even with my children, at least I try. One day, my son asked, 'Why do I have all these things and those people don't?' And I told him, 'When you’re born with a silver spoon in your mouth, it's your responsibility to use that. Even if it's not a silver spoon, maybe it's a plastic spoon. But if you have any spoon of any sort, you use that you scoop up some porridge and give it to someone who doesn't have it'."

"And I think from that day, I've also seen him looking at life differently and also realising that privilege is a platform which can be used to help other people," she added. 

For the unversed, Twinkle Khanna and Akshay Kumar are blessed with two children, a son Aarav and a daughter Nitara.
