The makers of Brahmastra, the first part of the sci-fi trilogy that has a strong love story at the core between its lead actors Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt, had originally chosen the Christmas weekend of 2019 as their release date. A while later, Salman Khan announced that he is bringing the third instalment of his Dabangg franchise on the same weekend.

The media went into a tizzy with the inimitable Chulbul Panday’s announcement as this meant a box-office clash between the Ayan Mukerji directorial and Prabhudheva’s masala entertainer. Reams have already been wasted on the so-called clash and what it will entail because there is no love lost between the leading men of the two films in question. Ever since their announcements, both Brahmastra and Dabangg 3 have piqued the audience’s interest. The former, which is set in contemporary India, but imbued in Indian mythology, magical energies and powers, also stars Amitabh Bachchan, Mouni Roy and Nagarjuna Akkineni. While in the latter, Salman will not only reprise his cop avatar but will also reunite with Arbaaz Khan and Sonakshi Sinha.

However, now the grapevine suggests that the Ranbir-Alia-starrer may not be able to make it on its originally ‘desired’ date. While people are wondering if it has anything to do with ‘the clash’, our source says, “There is a more practical reason. If Brahmastra doesn’t release in December 2019, it will be mainly because its shooting is likely to go on till October. After this, the sci-fi thriller will get into post-production, which may take longer because the film is heavily dependent on VFX. In the past, every movie with heavy-duty visual effects, has had to keep a buffer period due to the nature of the work involved.’’

As of now, there is no confirmed word on whether Brahmastra will be pushed. Or should we say, the battlefield is still not cleared. It remains to be seen if Salman and Ranbir will lock horns or leave their face-off for the future.
