After Indian Medical Association (IMA) and the Indian Psychiatric Society (IPS), Deepika Padukone's The Live Love Laugh Foundation (TLLLF) has now criticised the title and poster of Kangana Ranaut and Rajkummar Rao's upcoming film 'Mental Hai Kya'. They have appealed to the makers to withdraw the teaser and revise the title and the content, too, if it has any such provocative sequence, dialogue or song.

The post from the official Twitter handle of TLLLF, an initiative launched by Deepika in 2015, read: "It is time we put an end to the use of words, imagery and/or the portrayal of persons with mental illness in a way that reinforces stereotypes. Many millions who suffer from mental illness in India already face tremendous stigma. Therefore, it is extremely important to be responsible and sensitive towards the needs of those suffering."

Kangana's sister and personal manager Rangoli Chandel took to Twitter to respond to the foundation in a long thread. She said in a tweet that she feels that after watching the film, ‘you will remove Deepika Padukone and get Kangana on as your brand ambassador’.

Rangoli wrote, “Dear @TLLLFoundation Ms Ranaut who is recipient of three national awards and one of the driving forces of feminism movement in India through her films like Queen & Manikarnika is one f the most responsible artists,to jump the gun & assume the worse is nothing but immature. All I can say is that for Manikarnika we held screenings for school children in many states of India after MHK we would like to do the same with you.”

She continued, “Genre of the film is such (thriller) that we can’t reveal the exact plot or the parts that the characters are playing but of course we will acquire all the certificates we need to in order to show case the film to public.”

Suggesting Deepika Padukone’s battle with depression was because of a ‘break-up’, Rangoli further added, ‘now she is a happily married woman who is enjoying marital bliss.’ She urged them not to be "Karni Sena", referring to the outfit that had protested against Deepika's 'Padmaavat'. "Don't jump the gun, I assure you, you will love the film," she wrote.

Rangoli even issued a statement on Kangana's behalf, saying that the film "will make everyone proud." "On behalf of Kangana all I want to say is that everyone will be proud of Mental Hai Kya the topic and subject she has chosen will trigger relevant talk and discussions around the stigma," she tweeted.

She also urged media to consider her words as official statement from Kangana Ranaut. Rangoli asserted that her intention is to bridge the gap between Kangana and her fans as the actress is not available on social media.

Directed by Prakash Kovelamudi and produced by Ekta Kapoor, 'Mental Hai Kya' is a dark comedy centred around the lives of its two protagonists, both of whom show suicidal tendencies.
