Sunny Deol says his struggles started after the release of his 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha.
Sunny Deol is currently enjoying the thunderous success of his latest release Gadar 2. The actor impressed the audience once again after 22 years as Tara Singh. The actor recently talked about struggling even after giving a hit, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha in 2001.
In a recent conversation with BBC UK, Sunny Deol recalled how his struggle started after the release of his film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha. The actor said, “When my Gadar was released, after that actually my struggle started. Before that, I had no issues and after the film's release, I was not getting much work. Things were not happening the way they should be when it was the most appreciated film of the century. But things were not happening, but I never gave up, I carried on and on.”
When asked why he thinks that happened, the actor further said, “I think the whole world started changing. Hindi cinema started turning into what we call Bollywood now. And corporates came in and the whole structure started changing. I was not getting any good projects coming up. At the same time, I am existing because of the kind of work I have done, otherwise, I don’t see myself existing because I haven’t done any great films after that, you know anything that I can call popular cinema I would say.”
Sunny Deol’s Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, released in 2001 was a massive hit. The audience loved the actor’s role as Tara Singh and his chemistry with Ameesha Patel was also well appreciated by the audience. The movie was recently re-released in the theatres and the audience enjoyed it with the same enthusiasm.
The actor impressed the audience as Tara Singh once again with his latest release Gadar 2. Helmed by Anil Sharma, the movie is a direct sequel to the 2001 hit Gadar: Ek Prem Katha and revolves around the story of Tara Singh crossing the India-Pakistan border once again to save his son Charanjeet and bring him back home. Starring Sunny Deol as Tara Singh, Ameesha Patel as Sakina, and Utkarsh Sharma as Charanjeet, the movie also starred Manisha Wadhwa as the antagonist, Simrat Kaur, Gaurav Chopra and Luv Sinha in key roles. The movie is still running well at the box office and has collected Rs 456. 05 crore in 17 days in India and Rs 593.20 crore worldwide.
