Srijit Mukherji replaces Rahul Dholakia as director of Taapsee Pannu starrer 'Shabaash Mithu'

'Shabaash Mithu' is based on the life of the captain of Indian Women’s ODI cricket team, Mithali Raj who will be played by actor Taapsee Pannu.

One of the most anticipated films of 2022, ‘Shabaash Mithu’ starring Taapsee Pannu in the lead role, will now be helmed by Srijit Mukherji. Based on the life of the captain of the Indian Women’s ODI cricket team – Mithali Raj, the film was earlier supposed to be directed by Rahul Dholakia.

In his statement on Twitter, Dholakia wrote, “There are some films which you know you have to do. Shabaash Mithu was that film. When I read the script I was certain, this film I had to do; that was almost a year and a half ago - unfortunately I have to end the journey that started in November 2019.”

He added, “I won't be part of the dream, but I am and will always be there for them to realize their dream. Covid messed up everyone's schedules, mine was no different. Ajit has a vision, and a plan for the film and the way to release it. I wish him and the team the very best for it.”

While sharing his statement the wrote in the caption, “Good luck #ShabaashMithu !! And for any further comments on this matter kindly contact @MandviSharma ! Thank you all !”

Srijit Mukherji is a multiple National Award-winning director who has always worked in upcoming anthology series ‘Ray’. Speaking about ‘Shabaash Mithu’, Srijit said, “Being a cricket buff and researcher, Mithali’s tale has always been an inspiration to me. I was excited since I had first heard of this film being made and now that I am a part of it I look forward to kickstart the journey to bring this exhilarating story to the silver screen soon.”

‘Shabaash Mithu’ is the tale of one of the world’s greatest woman cricketer, Mithali Raj and chronicles the highs and lows, setbacks and moments of euphoria of Mithali’s life.
