The reason for the shooting coming to a halt was that KriArj Entertainment, which was producing the film along with Bhushan Kumar and director Shree Narayan Singh, reportedly faced financial trouble.

However, now, things seem to have been sorted as Bhushan has taken over the film that takes a realistic look at an electricity theft scam. The movie’s shooting will now resume in Mumbai.

While Prernaa Arora, one of the founders of KriArj Entertainment was unavailable for comment, Bhushan said, "I will now produce Batti Gul Meter Chalu (along with Shree Narayan Singh and Nitin Chandrachud). We want to ensure that the film is shot as per the locked schedule. Director Shree Narayan is set to complete BGMC as planned. BGMC shooting resumes on Friday (May 18, 2018)."
