Salman Khan's 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' co-star Bhagyashree talks about the possibility of collaborating with the superstar

Actress Bhagyashree whose recent bikini photos took the internet by storm, made a comeback in films with the J Jayalalithaa biopic 'Thalaivii'. Bhagyashree played Kangana Ranaut's onscreen mother Sandhya and was much appreciated for her portrayal of the same. The 52year-old who made her Hindi film debut opposite superstar Salman Khan in 1989, recently opened up about her comeback and the possibility of her doing a film with her 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' co-star once again. 

In an interview with Pinkvilla, while talking about her comeback in films, Bhagyashree said that she received lots of calls from people who said it was a welcoming change to see her on-screen again. Bhagyashree added that she has no qualms in playing a mother to a hero or heroine considering she is 52 and is a mom to grown-ups. She, however, added that the role should be substantial and vital to the script. "Lots of people called me up and said that it was a very welcoming thing to get me back on screen again, which has been so nice because I have been on screen after a very long time. Of course, everyone has been saying 'oh you look too beautiful to play the mother', and people often say that you don't look your age. But I say I am 52, I am a mother of grown-up children and have no qualms in playing a mother to the hero or heroine. The only thing is that it should be substantial and should make a difference to the story. That's the kind of subject I would like to work with."

Speaking about the possibility of working with Salman Khan again, Bhagyashree said, "Wow, I haven't met him in the longest time. But listen everyone knows, Salman is working with all the younger heroines. So I don't know what script will come about for both of us to work together." 

Looking back to the fame she got from the blockbuster hit 'Maine Pyaar' Kiya' and answering if she could have banked a little more on the popularity she gained at that time, Bhagyashree told the entertainment portal, "Well, looking back, yes. I didn't even realise the magnitude of the success at that point in time. I was so involved in raising my own family that it didn't really sink in, neither the success, adulation or the glamour of it all. I was very far away from that, and when I get glimpses of that adulation today, even after 30 years, I thank God that somewhere he must have really blessed me, for me to still remain in people's hearts for such a long time."

Meanwhile, the 'Maine Pyaar Kiya' star recently revealed on the Zee Comedy show that she was apprehensive while shooting the film with Salman Khan. The actress spoke about how she had started crying after hearing about a sequence where she had to hug Salman Khan during a song. In fact, it was Salman who had to convince a teary-eyed Bhagyashree to do the sequence. 
 
Revealing more about that moment, Bhagyashree said, "I was just 18 years old and though I was in love at that time and going to get married, I had never even hugged a guy till then. So, I got worried, and I started crying after hearing that I will have to hug Salman during a song sequence in Maine Pyaar Kiya. In fact, for half an hour, Salman Khan and Sooraj Sir were scratching their heads to figure out a solution because they had to showcase Suman and Prem's love in some way. After half an hour, Salman came up to me, I was teary-eyed and he innocently requested me and said, 'Please do it.' I couldn't say no and that's how I finally got convinced for doing that hug-sequence." 

While Bhagyashree understood and did what Salman and Sooraj Sir requested her to, there was a time when they had to hear her suggestion and change a sequence as well. There was a scene where Salman and Bhagyashree had to kiss each other. However, due to the latter's apprehension, the entire sequence was shot with glass between them.
 
As the actress mentioned, "I was about to get married, so I wasn't so comfortable doing a kissing scene back then. So, Sooraj sir came up with an idea of having a glass in between us and the kiss would be showcased through that. That's how they changed the sequence."

On the work front, Bhagyashree will next be seen in Radhe Shyam alongside actors Prabhas and Pooja Hegde.
