'Roja' actress Madhoo bags role in Kangana Ranaut's 'Thalaivi'

Arvind Swamy was recently cast as MGR in Kangana Ranaut's 'Thalaivi'. The makers are all set to bring back 'Roja' nostalgia since they have now also cast his co-star Madhoo in the movie which is the biopic on the life of J Jayalalithaa.

Mentioning that he first wanted to cast Madhoo as J Jayalalithaa’s mother Sandhya previously, director Vijay went on to tell Bombay Times that he believed Madhoo is perfect for the role of VN Janaki aka MGR's wife. After seeing ups and downs in the Hindi cinema, Madhoo had kept herself busy with South Indian movies in the past few years.

Not just Madhoo, Shamna Kasim is also part of the project. She would play the role of Sasikala, which was originally offered to South Indian film actress Priya Mani. "We had some date issues with Priya Mani. Our immediate choice was Shamna. I have seen her work and she’s a phenomenal performer. We did a make-up test and she was perfect for the role. Both, Shamna and Madhoo, have begun shooting," the director told the daily.

The team of 'Thalaivi' is currently shooting the film in Chennai and the schedule would end sometime in March. Kangana's second look from the film was recently unveiled, which was much appreciated by people, especially by Ranaut's 'Panga' director Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari.
