The latest to join the singles and music videos bandwagon is Richa Chadha, who is set to feature in Shibani Kashyap’s new single Wanna Be Free, which raises a voice against the addiction to social media.

“Apart from the promotional videos for my films, I haven’t featured in any other music videos. That’s because I felt it should be relevant and more than just a party or love song. So, when Shibani came to me with the idea of doing something around technology, I liked it. Human interaction has lessened because people are addicted to social media and this video speaks against it,” she says.

Though Richa also has a social page through which she interacts with her fans, she knows where to draw a line. “When I like something I’ve read, I can tweet it or put my thoughts on my blog directly. I like that it connects people directly and is intimate, but I don’t like the obsession with it,” she says.

TURNING SINGER

Besides the music video, Richa is turning a singer with a Punjabi single, in collaboration with the UK-based musician Dr Zeus. She says, “I am a Punjabi but I’ve always felt that I haven’t explored my Punjabiyat. I was born in Amritsar and grew up in Delhi and there is a strong cultural connect. I was visiting a friend who has started a music label and it was his idea that I sing. Zeus was in India at that time and we met through this common friend. That’s how the idea for the single came about; it wasn’t planned.”

The duo has already done a scratch but are yet to take a call on where they will record it. “It will mostly be in India. I’m exploring different facets and having fun because one can’t experiment much in films,” she signs off.
