Legendary actress Meena Kumari is counted among one of the best actresses in the history of Indian cinema. Her real name was Mehjabeen Bano. It's the 85th birth anniversary of the veteran actress today. Her fans still remember her memorable performances in films like Pakeezah, Saheb Biwi Aur Gulam among others.

Though, Meena Kumari had a huge army of fans, not much was known about the actress who was initially married to Kamal Amrohi and later the duo got separated. We came across another lesser known fact about the actress which left many surprised. Meena Kumari was seen hiding her left hand from the glares of the camera on a number of occasions but nobody knew the real reason why she made a conscious effort to do so.

Well, turns out that the little finger of her left hand was broken and hence it appeared crooked. In an interview, Kamal Amrohi's son Tajdar Amrohi revealed that on May 21, 1951, Meena Kumari was returning to Mumbai from Mahabaleshwar when her car met with an accident. It was quite a major car crash which resulted in Meena Kumari being in the hospital for quite a lot of days.

It was in this accident that her left hand got injured and her little finger got broken. Due to this, the shape of the finger changed and it became round. As per Tajdar Amrohi, this is the reason why Meena Kumari hid her left hand from the camera in all the movies that she did later on in her career, to hide the crooked shape of her finger.
