Filmmaker Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra's upcoming film, 'Mere Pyare Prime Minister' is all set to release on 14th December 2018. The filmmaker has always explored socially-relevant topics through his movies and his latest outing focuses on the issue of open defecation and lack of sanitation in the country.

'Mere Pyare Prime Minister' revolves around four kids living in a Mumbai slum. One of them wants to build a toilet for his single mother and makes an appeal to the Prime Minister. The film is shot at real locations in Mumbai and highlights a unique mother-son relationship. It stars the National award-winning actress Anjali Patil in the role of a young mother.

Coincidently, Rakeysh's 2006 blockbuster 'Rang De Basanti' also talked about friendship. It will be interesting to see him have a fresh take on the subject. The film was earlier going to be released on Gandhi Jayanti. "It will release on October 2. The film is inspired by Gandhiji, so it's a relevant date. We could have released the film now, but it's an ode to the Father of the Nation, so...," Mehra had earlier said.

"Gandhi is a recurring motif in the film... It comes many times....four times in the film," the filmmaker had said, while recounting how a visit to the Sabarmati Ashram impacted him.
