Priya Prakash Varrier got overnight stardom with just one teaser, but her parents did not deal well with the sudden attention. While talking about facing house arrest and having to deal with curfew, Priya revealed some interesting details in an interview to Indian Express.
Speaking about her parents’ reaction to the overnight stardom, Priya said, “We were trying to handle it together. Because everything was new to me as well as my family. It is true that I was not given cell phones or anything. For a few days I was under house arrest and I was not allowed to go out because my parents were tensed. The media people would turn up at my door without even informing.”
"I ended up coming back from my college and giving them interviews in my college uniform. I had to do that! People just turned up at my door and asked, ‘Is this Priya Varrier’s house? Can we just see her? Can we meet her?’ My dad would make up some story like ‘she is not here’, ‘she is in the hostel’, something like that." added the actress.
When asked about how she deals with loss of privacy, she counter-argued, “I wouldn’t say there is a loss of privacy. Initially, there was a curfew at home that you cannot go out like before. But I didn’t want to give up on those things. I really enjoy going out with my friends and doing all those normal things.”
Now known as the ‘wink girl’, Priya became an overnight star through all her expressions in the teaser of her debut film Oru Adaar Love. She said, “The ‘wink girl’ tag is definitely helping me a lot with all the recognition and popularity. But I would like to outgrow that tag someday. Initially, it was hard to accept that something like this was happening. I am trying to enjoy it.”
Talking about trolls and controversies, Priya said, “Initially, it used to bother me, and I didn’t know how to handle all that because they were the same people who gave me so much love and then they started putting me down. That was disheartening in the beginning. But now I am okay with all of that.”
While the teaser of her film Oru Adaar Love made her popular for good reasons, Priya was bashed for her latest lip-lock video with her co-star Roshan Abdul Rahoof. The actress confirmed being approached for many movies from many industries, and for the uninitiated, Priya also got into controversy after her film Sridevi Bungalow’s trailer troubled Boney Kapoor.
