Sridevi's last rites and funeral took place on Wednesday...
Sridevi's sudden and tragic demise left the entire nation in shock. The 54-year old actress was in Dubai, attending a family wedding. She passed away on February 24, sue to accidental drowning in her bathtub following loss of consciousness.
Hailed as the first female superstar of the country, Sridevi was given the state honours before she was cremated on February 28 in Mumbai. A sea of her fans had turned up to catch a glimpse of their favourite actress for one last time.
The fans followed her cortege in a procession as her mortal remains were being taken for the last rites. While one would assume that the grief-sticken family would have faced a lot of difficulties in the while taking her remains to the crematorium, it was Mumbai Police who ensured that they got the space and privacy to do the needful.
Anil Kapoor took to his Twitter account to share his statement thanking the friends and well-wishers of the family. He also thanked the Mumbai Police for their help and support during the entire journey.
As we mourn, I'm deeply thankful to our friends & well wishers who have formed a protective circle around us so we can grieve in peace...I would specially like to thank the Mumbai Police for being by our side through it all and making sure we got the space & privacy that we needed, to do what was necessary. Thank you all for your prayers & understanding.
