Padmaavat | Cinema owners association writes to the Home Ministry seeking sufficient security outside theaters

With just two days to go before Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat hits theaters, not just state government even exhibitors and distributors are fretting over security issues.

With fringe fury refusing to die down, Cinema Owners & Exhibitors Association of India (COAEI) has written to the Home ministry seeking sufficient security outside theaters showing Padmaavat. The association has also advised theaters that they should show the film after ensuring proper security.

While Shree Rajput Karni Sena after resorting to violence at many places in Gujarat and other states opposing the release of Padmaavat, is now is banking on the support of theatre owners as well as citizens for ensuring that the movie is not screened or watched. They claim distorts history and shows legendary Rajput queen Padmavati in poor light. Gujarat and Rajasthan were among the states that had banned the movie, but the Supreme Court struck down the ban. On Tuesday, the Supreme Court rejected the plea by Rajasthan and MP governments seeking a recall of its earlier order on the grounds of law and order.  Karni Sena's plea to ban the film as it allegedly distorted history, was also rejected. 

Lead actor of Padmaavat, Ranveer Singh took to Twitter to clarify the fact the film is not distorting history. He wrote on Twitter, " Our humble tribute to the valor, legacy and courage of the Rajputs, Padmaavat releases in 2 days."

On Tuesday, Deepika Padukone visited Siddhivinayak Temple in Mumbai to pray for a peaceful release of Padmaavat. While Karan Johar earlier told ANI in Davos,  "As a film-maker, I can only hope that we have a smooth release."

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus is all set for a worldwide January 25 release in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil. The film is based on 16th-century Sufi poet Malik Muhammad Jayasi's epic poem 'Padmavat'.
The flick has run into trouble time and again, as members of several Rajput factions have accused the director of the film of distorting history.
