Nitesh Tiwari has previously directed Aamir Khan-starrer Dangal, which remains the highest-grossing film in India, and Sushant Singh Rajput's Chhichhore.
Varun Dhawan and Janhvi Kapoor's romantic drama Bawaal was dubbed 'insensitive' and 'tone-deaf' for its references to Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust, the genocide of European Jews during the World War II. The film, directed by Nitesh Tiwari of Dangal and Chhichhore fame, was also called out by the Israeli embassy in India for its 'trivialization' of the Holocaust.
Now, in a recent interview, Nitesh has talke about the criticism around his film. Talking to Hindustan Times, while promoting his latest production Tumse Na Ho Payega, the filmmaker said, "People were overtly nitpicking what I would say. Predominately the kind of feedback I got was very very positive. People who consumed it, had it the way it should have been consumed, rather than overly nitpicking. But, having said that, no offence, people can nitpick also."
"I respect their opinion because that is exactly what it is when you put out a work in a public forum. You have to be ready for all kinds of reactions. It’s great learning also, from all of that. I take it all in the right spirit. I try to learn as to how can I improve things going forward", Nitesh added who is reportedly adapting the Hindu mythological epic Ramayana for his next film.
As per reports, Nitesh Tiwari's Ramayana will star Ranbir Kapoor as Rama and Kannada star Yash as Ravana. There are two strong contenders to play the character of Sita, Alia Bhatt and Sai Pallavi. The film is going to be a mounted on a massive scale and budget, making it the costliest film ever produced in India.
