Naseeruddin Shah has strongly opened up on those ‘sections of Indian Muslims’ who are ‘celebrating the Taliban's return to power in Afghanistan,’ calling it hazardous.
Naseeruddin said in a video, “Even if the Taliban's restoration to power in Afghanistan is a source of alarm for the entire world, some Indian Muslims' celebrations of the barbarians are just as harmful”
"Those who celebrate the Taliban's resurgence, according to the 71-year-old actor, should consider whether they want to reform their faith or live with the old savagery".
He distinguished between Hindustani Islam and Islam as it is practised in other areas of the world. He said that Islam in India had always been distinct from Islam everywhere in the globe and that he hoped God would not bring a period when it would alter so drastically that we would no longer recognise it.
Every Indian Muslim, he continued, should consider whether they desire "a reformed, modern Islam" or "the barbarous values" of previous ages. “I am an Indian Muslim, and my connection with God is casual.
Stating the great Mirza Ghalib he said, "I don't need political religion,".

‘Nishant’, ‘Aakrosh’, ‘Sparsh’, ‘Mirch Masala’, ‘Albert Pinto Ko Gussa Kyon Ata Hai’, ‘Trikal’, ‘Bhavni Bhavai’, ‘Junoon’, ‘Mandi’, ‘Mohan Joshi Hazir Ho!’, ‘Ardh Satya’, ‘Katha’, and ‘Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro’ are some of Naseeruddin's films. He made his acting debut in the 1967 film ‘Aman’, which starred Rajendra Kumar and Saira Banu.
