Love Sonia, which has been critically acclaimed and applauded at various international film festivals released in India yesterday (September 14). Packed with powerful performances, it’s a story of hope and courage and talks about a superhero without superpowers. It is about a 17-year-old girl, who travels across India, Hong Kong and Los Angeles to rescue her sister from the nexus that runs human trafficking across continents. Like all inspiring underdog films, the character of Sonia embarks on a perilous journey and reveals a greater truth.
Love Sonia has already won hearts at screenings in London and Melbourne. It marks the directorial debut of Tabrez Noorani and has been backed by the Academy Award-nominated producer of Life of Pi, David Womark. The film is co-produced by Amar Butala and has Shalini Thackeray, Deepak Nayar and Pravesh Sahni as executive producers. It marks the big-screen debut of television actor Mrunal Thakur, who plays the titular role. Along with actors like Richa Chadha, Manoj Bajpayee and Rajkummar Rao, the cast also features renowned names such as Demi Moore and Freida Pinto.
Tabrez says, “The anticipation before the film’s release was an exciting and emotional time for all of us. We have handed over our story to the audiences and now it has become their story. We are enormously happy to have the movie out in theatres.”
