Ace filmmaker Mani Ratnam, who had been in news for his upcoming movie with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, suffered from cardiac arrest. He has been admitted to Greams Road Apollo hospital in Chennai. This is not the first time when Ratnam suffered from cardiac issue.

Mani Ratnam suffered heart attack first in the year 2004, on the sets of the movie Yuva. The film starred Ajay Devgn Abhishek Bachchan, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Rani Mukerji, Vivek Oberoi and Esha Deol in lead roles. Almost a decade later, in the year 2015, the Ok Kanmani helmer had his second attack. He was holidaying in Srinagar, Kashmir but had to fly down to Delhi in order to get himself treated. The family managed to keep the situation private for the longest time.

After 2015, news reports stated that Mani Ratnam had been hospitalized in 2018, for heart issue again. The hospital however asserted that he was admitted just for routine check-up process after he complained of chest pain then. Hence, his latest incident is the fourth time he could have got cardiac arrest. Lokesh Jey, representing a media house from Chennai confirmed the news by tweeting, "Director #ManiRatnam admitted to Greams Road Apollo hospital due to cardiac problems."

Mani Ratnam was busy working on Ponniyin Selvan, which Aishwarya Rai Bachchan confirmed, would be her next film. Latest reports stated that the filmmaker was in talks with Reliance Entertainment for the same. The film has been reported to go on a scale as grand as SS Rajamouli's Baahubali.
