A division bench of Gujarat High Court, headed by Chief Justice R Subhash Reddy, has sought details of the re-christening of the movie LoveRatri to LoveYatri. The court was hearing a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that claimed the title and contents of the film hurt sentiments of Hindus as it is a spin on the word 'Navratri'.

Though the PIL was originally filed by Sanatan Foundation, the International Hindu Sena also joined in the petition. It urged the court to order the film's producers to change the title and remove offensive sections. The PIL contended while the festival is a religious one, the name of the movie suggested amorous activities.

B B Agarwal, the counsel for the petitioner said the film's producer Salman Khan had recently tweeted that the movie's name was changed to LoveYatri from LoveRatri. The new name, they argued, still sounded like the religious festival.

The court asked Agarwal whether he had any documents to show the name change, which he did not. The court then asked the defendant's (Salman Khan Films) counsel, Salil Thakor, for details of the name change and about the plot of the movie. "We will view the movie, if necessary," the bench said.

Thakor argued that the Supreme Court had ruled during the hearing of the movie Padmavati that a PIL cannot be entertained about a film that is yet to be granted a certification by the Central Board of Film Certification. The certificate for LoveYatri is still pending.

To this, Agarwal argued that the trailer was already released, and some songs and dialogues were also out.

A TRAILER

Set against the backdrop of Gujarat, the movie traces the love story of a young couple, essayed by newcomers Aayush Sharma and Warina Hussain, which unfolds over the nine-day festival of Navratri. Written by Bhavnagar-born Naren Bhatt, the film is helmed by Abhiraj Minawala. Produced by Salman Khan Films, it releases on October 5.
