Kriti Kharbanda on mental health amid coronavirus lockdown, says one shouldn’t hesitate in seeking help

Bollywood actor Kriti Kharbanda has always been vocal about mental health and has now said that the current coronavirus crisis is only adding to people's misery. Speaking about the same, in a recent interview, Kriti said, "I’ve been very vocal about my mental health. I’m someone who did seek help in the past when I was going through a certain kind of ordeal in my life where I felt like therapy would help me. It’s also very important to talk about domestic violence cases in India, which is disturbing and sad. It has come down to this, that we discuss it so vocally and people aren’t realising how wrong it is."

Kriti thinks that given this factor people suffering from mental health issues should accept they have a problem and try to work on it. She said, "Honestly when we take care of ourselves, it’s termed ‘selfish’. It’s not selfish, taking care of yourself, and wanting to be good and happy mentally. It’s being normal, but it’s called selfish because people are not used to putting themselves first." 

The 31-year-old actor further added that the attitude of certain people when you speak up about not feeling good mentally is also a trigger. "It’s always about ‘The whole world is going through it, why the hell are you crying?’. This is the reaction from most people. Having said that, I don’t care what’s happening to the rest of the world, because my mind is scre*ed! That’s the fight. I understand the world is going through it, they have the power to deal with it, you don’t have the mental capacity for it. That is step one, you wanting help, acceptance is key," she said.
