Kiran Rao opens up about her relationship with Aamir Khan after divorce: 'His mother is still...'

Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan and his ex-wife Kiran Rao are prime examples of how people can still remain cordial and have an understanding relationship despite a romantic separation. The former couple ended their marriage in 2021, however, both Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao have remained close friends, collaborators, and co-parents to their son Azad. In a recent interview, Kiran Rao opened up about her bond with Aamir Khan, especially with his mother Zeenat Hussain. "It (the separation) happened smoothly because it took us time to reach a place where we were ready to be divorced. We worked on our marriage really well for a long time. Even when we decided to get divorced, it was done very mindfully. We never fought. We would have arguments from time to time, but nothing that wouldn’t be resolved within 12 hours. Those were the same kind of disagreements one might have with their parents," Kiran Rao told Filmfare. 

Kiran Rao also shared how her relationship with Aamir Khan is rooted in love and respect and therefore, it is special. "He’s my friend and, in many ways, my teacher. He’s my support system and has always been that for me. But there are days when he infuriates me. In the end, it’s about what you choose to hold on to," she said. 

Calling them "happily divorced", Kiran Rao revealed that both she and Aamir Khan still have a blended family and she wouldn't have it any other way. "His mother is still my mother-in-law, and his kids (Junaid and Ira) are my friends and very dear to me," she said.
