Kartik Aaryan, who is gearing up for the release of Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety, has been roped in for the Hindi remake of the Tamil hit Jigarthanda. Sanjay Dutt and Tamannah Bhatia have already been locked for the movie that is being produced by Ajay Devgn and directed by Nishikant Kamat. Farhan Akhtar was initially supposed to do this film, playing the role of an upcoming director; originally enacted by Siddharth (Of Rang De Basanti fame), with Dutt essaying the character of a ruthless gangster with acting ambitions.

However, last month, Farhan opted out of the film reportedly due to logistical differences with the filmmakers. Now, Kartik has been zeroed in for the part of a struggling filmmaker who wants to make a documentary on the life of a gangster.

Our source says, “Farhan was meant to do the film, but ever since he opted out, the makers weighed several options. The role is that of a fairly young actor, so after meeting Kartik, the movie’s makers felt he aptly fits the need of the role and its space. The shooting will start this April.”
