Ranveer Singh seems to have now become a special and important part of Karan Johar’s life, especially after they gave a blockbuster-hit in Simmba. The actor is so special to KJo that he was the first person to hear Takht, when even Karan’s immediate family did not know about the progress on the film. That also means that Karan's BFF Kareena Kapoor Khan or Alia Bhatt, who considers him a mentor, did not know about the film either.

On a chat show with Ranveer, Karan had revealed, “When I thought of this film, I thought Ranveer Singh has to be in this film. That was my decision. I remember the narration. There would be a huge part in my heart which would’ve been crushed if for some reason you would’ve declined the offer, because I had you in mind for Takht always. You were the first person who heard it. Nobody in my family knew this film was ready. When I was narrating this nobody in my film family, except me, knew. You were the first narration I ever had on that film. So when you told me I was in some zone, it was also stress and nervousness because I was pitching a film to an actor who I really wanted. That did not happen to me in the past and the feeling of nervousness made me realize that this (movie) is special. I have always sat in a narration knowing an actor is going to do it.”

Ranveer added to that by saying, “I just wanna tell people that Karan called me over and when he started narrating the film himself, suddenly I asked myself who is this person? I don’t know this person! His eyes were red, body was flushed, hands were trembling and there was an aura around him. It was almost like he was tripping. He was so immersed in it that I was taken aback, mesmerized and a little bit shaken up because I didn’t know Karan Johar had this side to him. But I’m sure he’s a badass filmmaker and would make a badass film.”

Karan Johar however felt, “Takht is not only my most challenging work but also a territory I’m totally out of. It’s a territory you (Ranveer) know better.” Ranveer declined Karan’s statement and said, “No Karan. What is the core of the film? Family dynamics, relationship dynamics, power play, core emotional beats, the themes – greed, ambition, betrayal – all of these things are quintessentially Karan Johar. He is the master of this.”

Apart from Ranveer, Kareena and Alia, Takht also stars Vicky Kaushal, Janhvi Kapoor, Anil Kapoor and Bhumi Pednekar. The movie is Karan Johar’s directorial venture post Ranbir Kapoor-Anushka Sharma starrer Ae Dil Hai Mushkil.
