Janhvi Kapoor recalls hilarious story of when mom Sridevi misspelled her name

Janhvi Kapoor has an uncommon spelt name in Bollywood. While Jaanvi or Jhanavi are more prevalent variations of the name, the actor's name frequently causes uncertainty not only for others but also for herself.

Janhvi discussed how her name has always been a difficult one to pronounce during a recent appearance on ‘Social Media Star.' Janhvi began by saying that it's not that confusing but then went on to tell the story of how she felt her name was spelt incorrectly for years.

“When I was in school, I had just started learning how to spell. I genuinely didn't know the spelling of my name. Mom (late actor Sridevi) was showering in her bathroom and I yelled out to her. ‘Mumma, how do you spell my name?’ She misspelt my name. She said J-A-N-H-A-V-I. And for some reason, I never questioned it. For eight years," she said.

“We were going somewhere, I think to London, and I finally opened my passport and I was like, my whole life has been a lie. My friends still make fun of me. Every time I tell them something, they say, ‘You need to shut up because you didn’t know how to spell your name until you were 12,” she added.

For the unversed, on the late Sridevi's birthday, Janhvi turned to Instagram to share a throwback photo with her.

Sharing the photo, she wrote, “Happy birthday Mumma. I miss you. Everything is for you, always, every day. I love you.”

She also celebrated a year of ‘Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl’. In a post, she wrote, "Nothing I ever say will do enough justice to what this journey has meant to me. I could have never even dreamt of a creative process that felt so pure and enriching, in every way. And I`m so grateful for all the people that helped make it that way, and most of all to Gunjan Mam for letting us be privy to her spirit and her rare sincerity, something that continues to guide me and shape my outlook in everything I try to do,"

Janhvi's other commitments include wrapping filming for her father Boney Kapoor's upcoming film 'Helen,' which will begin production this month. She's also working on a follow-up to 'Dostana,' though no release date has been set.
