Bollywood director Kundan Shah passed away at the age of 69 on Saturday morning following a cardiac arrest.

The family confirmed the news to PTI.

Student of the Film and Television Institute of India in Pune, Shah was most known for cult classic Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro (1983) starring Naseeruddin Shah, Ravi Baswani, Om Puri, Satish Kaushik, Pankaj Kapur, and Bhakti Barve.

His other remarkable contributions to Indian entertainment industry include TV series like Nukkad (1986), Wagle Ki Duniya (1988), movies like Shah Rukh Khan starrer Kabhi Haan Kabhi Naa (1993), Preity Zinta starrer Kya Kehna (2000). P Se PM Tak (2005) was the last movie he directed.

Shah was one of the 23 directors who announced that they were returning their National Awards amid the intolerance debate in November 2015.
