In his 27-year-long career, Akshay Kumar has consistently reinvented himself with his interesting choice of films. Now, the Bollywood superstar will be seen in the Hindi adaptation of the 2011 Tamil horror comedy Kanchana: Muni 2. Incidentally, it was Akki who had given viewers a taste of the genre with Bhool Bhulaiyaa that released 11 years ago. The success of Golmaal Again (2017) and the recently-released Stree have further proved the reach of such films.

BIGGER AND BETTER

A source says, “Akshay has been in talks for the Kanchana remake for a long time. The film’s concept — horror laced with humour — appealed to him. But he had to schedule his dates for the project. He has finally given the movie a go-ahead and it’s happening next year, mostly after he wraps up Good News opposite Kareena Kapoor Khan.”

The source adds, “It will be directed by Raghava Lawrence who had written, helmed as well as played the lead role in the original. Akshay will portray his character, who gets possessed by a ghost. He knows the pulse of the audience and now with such movies doing  great business, he wants to approach Kanchana in a different way and make it a much bigger film.”

A ROWDY REUNION

The project will also reunite the actor with his Rowdy Rathore producer Shabina Khan. Our khabri adds, “Akshay and Shabina have remained friends. Although, there have been a lot of changes in the cast in the last few years, this called for a perfect reunion for the two. They are also working towards a sequel to their hit 2012 action comedy, which starred Sonakshi Sinha.”

CHANGE OF HANDS

Another source revealed, “The Kanchana remake was initially picked up by Sohail Khan and Salman Khan was supposed to star in it. But that didn’t work out. Then, Shabina bagged the rights and she was in talks with Ajay Devgn, but things didn’t materialise. Now, it’s finally happening with the Khiladi Kumar.”
